Preview: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Irmo Yellowjackets
Lugoff-Elgin is on a five-game streak of home losses, Irmo a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Lugoff-Elgin Demons will take on the Irmo Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Lugoff-Elgin ended up a good deal behind A.C. Flora and lost 66-49. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lugoff-Elgin in their matchups with A.C. Flora: they've now lost six in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Teryn Hobson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Jordan Samuel was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 15-15 at halftime, Irmo was not quite Westwood's equal in the second half on Friday. Irmo took a 34-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of Westwood. While losing is never fun, Irmo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Westwood is ranked 34th).
Lugoff-Elgin's defeat dropped their record down to 3-16. As for Irmo, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Lugoff-Elgin was dealt a bruising 57-26 defeat at the hands of Irmo when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Lugoff-Elgin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
