The Union Academy Cardinals will venture away from home to square off against the Charlotte Latin Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
It was a proper cat-fight when Union Academy took on Carmel Christian on Tuesday. The Cardinals took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars.
Union Academy got a good showing from Brett Moore, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). What's more, Moore gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.
At the plate, Union Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zamarion Shine, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Latin hadn't done well against Charlotte Christian recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Hawks skirted past the Knights 7-5.
Avery Booker made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Jaden Hawa was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Hudson Shoup was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Charlotte Latin's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Union Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.
Union Academy might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Charlotte Latin in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
