Two dominant signal callers in Brennan Tesseyman and Jake Giordano are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Washingtonville Wizards will face off against the Goshen Central Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Washingtonville was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Warwick on Friday. The Wizards blew past the Wildcats, posting a 35-7 win. That 28 point margin sets a new team best for the Wizards this season.
Joel Luongo was his usual excellent self, rushing for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also picking up 58 receiving yards.
Washingtonville didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Warwick to a completion percentage of just 17.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from five players: Dominic Perone, Vince Lombardi, Daniel Dankwah, Austin Gil, and Waseem Al-Awadi, who each logged one passes deflected. Washingtonville wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 73.3%.
Meanwhile, Goshen Central entered their tilt with Wallkill on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Panthers 43-14. With the Gladiators ahead 26-6 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Washingtonville better keep an eye on Liam OHara. He was instrumental in Goshen Central's win, rushing for 95 yards and one TD.
Washingtonville's record is now 4-1. As for Goshen Central, their record now sits at an identical 4-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Washingtonville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 200.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Goshen Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 242 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Washingtonville's way against Goshen Central when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as Washingtonville made off with a 42-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wizards since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
