Recap: Del Norte Knights vs. La Cueva Bears
The Del Norte Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 74-50 loss at the hands of La Cueva. Del Norte has not had much luck with La Cueva recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Del Norte saw an underclassman step up: Julian Castillo scored 22 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castillo has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Francois Satchivi, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
La Cueva's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eric Jacobsen, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Jacobsen scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Dyer, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Del Norte has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for La Cueva, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-5.
Del Norte will head out on the road to square off against Bernalillo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for La Cueva, they will play host again and welcome West Mesa, where tip off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (West Mesa is ranked 19th, while La Cueva is ranked sixth).
