The Riverside Vikings will venture away from home to challenge the West Scranton Invaders at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Riverside's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so West Scranton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Riverside's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Western Wayne. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Nicholas Bohenek was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Bohenek was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jose Sosa, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Jason Posluszny was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Scranton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Wallenpaupack Area. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Invaders have suffered since May 7, 2025.
West Scranton saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Lesh, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Lesh has brought in this season. Another was Julian Poniatowski, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
The win made it two in a row for Riverside and bumps their season record up to 12-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for West Scranton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.
West Scranton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. It's a different story for West Scranton, though, as they've only averaged .336. Will they be able to contain Riverside's hitters?
Everything went Riverside's way against West Scranton when the teams last played back in April of 2025, as Riverside made off with a 14-8 win. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Invaders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
