Basketball Recap: Owen Drops Highest Score of Season Against Draughn

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Owen). They put the hurt on the Draughn Wildcats with a sharp 95-74 victory on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 83-55 back in December of 2024.

Owen's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Asante Martin, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 30 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Martin is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Wesley Burk, who went 9 for 14 en route to 25 points and five boards.

Martin wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Owen was working as a unit and finished the game with 29 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Connor Houston, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. What's more, Houston also racked up four assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Cayden Lewis was another key player, going 7 for 15 en route to 22 points.

Owen pushed their record up to 11-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points per game. As for Draughn, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.

Coincidentally, Owen and Draughn will both be playing Mitchell the next time they take the court. Draughn will head out to face Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Owen will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
