Football Recap: Granite Hills Starts Season with Victory at Home + How To Watch

Granite Hills gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They strolled past the Oceanside Pirates with points to spare, taking the game 45-29. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Pirates are ranked 197th).

Zachary Benitez was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 451 yards and four TDs while completing 78.3% of his passes. Those 451 passing yards gave him a new career-high.

Oceanside's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anthony Barquinero, who threw for 299 yards and a pair of touchdowns. SJ Poumele also helped out as he racked up 115 receiving yards.

Looking ahead, Granite Hills will be playing in front of their home fans against Mater Dei Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oceanside, they will head out to challenge Carlsbad at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
