Recap: Farrell Steelers vs. Mercer Mustangs

There's no place like home for the Farrell Steelers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Mercer 65-62. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Farrell has posted yet this season.

Farrell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julius Phillips Jr led the charge by scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Odem III, who scored 14 points.

Farrell pushed their record up to 7-3 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Mercer, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3.

Farrell won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Union Area at 4:30 p.m. on January 13th. Union Area will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while Farrell is ranked 253rd). As for Mercer, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Shenango at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
