Softball Recap: Maynard Starts Season with Victory Against Ayer Shirley

Maynard had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Ayer Shirley Panthers 25-5. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 5-2 victory the Panthers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Elizabeth Schmidt was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Neveah Duplessis was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Maynard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ayer Shirley only posted an OBP of .400.

Ayer Shirley now has a losing record of 0-1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Maynard Tigers take on West Boylston Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ayer Shirley, they will welcome Tahanto Regional at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
