Softball Recap: Sprague Wins Going Away Against South Salem

After low-scoring totals in their previous three match, Sprague brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They put the hurt on the South Salem Saxons with a sharp 14-1 win on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Olympians as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Shayla Qualls made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Qualls was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Sprague got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Bakke, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Brenna Morris also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Sprague hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.

Sprague's record now sits at 4-11. As for South Salem, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.

The future could be bright for both Sprague and South Salem: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Olympians will try to hand Parkrose their 14th-straight loss when the two meet at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, South Salem will look to extend McKay's 14-game losing streak when they meet at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
