Basketball Recap: Intermountain Christian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Vanguard Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Intermountain Christian). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Vanguard Academy Knights 62-32. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Intermountain Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Elaine Lunsford, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Lunsford is becoming a predictor of Intermountain Christian's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 8-1 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Frazee, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Intermountain Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Vanguard Academy lost, don't look at Adie Jenkins. Despite the final result, she had 19 points and four steals. That was a full 59.4% of Vanguard Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Minnie Weaver was another key player, putting up seven points.

Intermountain Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Vanguard Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Intermountain Christian will be playing at home against Rockwell at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Rockwell will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Intermountain Christian surely won't give up without a fight. Vanguard Academy has already played their next game (against Merit Preparatory Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
