Volleyball Recap: Marcela Fernandes Key Part of Team Effort in Lions Win

Winston Salem Christian won the last time they faced Carter G. Woodson and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Lions blew past the Eagle 3-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Winston Salem Christian took every set by at least 14 points. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-10, 25-6, 25-11.

Winston Salem Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcela Fernandes, who had nine kills, eight aces, three digs, and one block. Fernandes is crushing it when it comes to kills: she's had at least five every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Dora Montiero-Victor, who had eight aces and four digs.

The victory got Winston Salem Christian back to even at 10-10. As for Carter G. Woodson, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Winston Salem Christian will take on High Point Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Carter G. Woodson, they will head out to challenge Quality Education Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
