The Estes Park Bobcats will venture away from home to take on the Lyons Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Estes Park has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 10th.
Estes Park came up short against Front Range Christian on Saturday, falling 18-3.
Estes Park saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Sumner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was Sumner's first of the season.
Meanwhile, Lyons never let their opponents score on Saturday. They blew past Jefferson 16-0. Considering the Lions have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Zack LaCrosse and Wyatt Fitzgerald made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, LaCrosse struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Fitzgerald pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. LaCrosse has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, LaCrosse earned three runs and one stolen base, while Fitzgerald got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Fitzgerald has become a key player for Lyons: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise.
In other batting news, Jake LaCrosse was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Lyons' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Irvin, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Lyons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Lyons is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Estes Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Estes Park has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lyons struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
