Baseball Recap: Central Hardin Wins Going Away Against John Hardin

Central Hardin came out on top against John Hardin on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Bruins put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-4 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-1 on April 9th.

Mason Smith tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has become a key player for Central Hardin: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Devin Hubbard, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Central Hardin's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Cowley, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Central Hardin hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John Hardin struck out seven times.

The victory got Central Hardin back to even at 11-11. As for John Hardin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Central Hardin will venture away from home to take on Barren County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with the Bruins sitting on three straight wins and the Trojans on seven. As for John Hardin, they will head out to challenge Francis Parker at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
