Basketball Recap: Greeley Central Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Neamiah Carrillo and Daniel Martinez

Greeley Central came up into this matchup off a tough 33-point loss last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Northridge Grizzlies by a score of 57-54 on Friday. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Grizzlies earlier this season, when they won 62-49.

Despite the defeat, Greeley Central had strong showings from Daniel Martinez, who went 10-for-20 en route to 24 points in addition to eight boards and six steals, and Neamiah Carrillo, who posted 14 points and four steals. That was a full 44.4% of Greeley Central's points, marking the sixth time in a row Martinez has earned more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Greeley Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northridge only seven offensive rebounds.

Northridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Mena, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds. Mena is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lane Agens, who had 15 points and five boards.

Greeley Central dropped their record down to 6-15 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Northridge, their record now sits at 5-15.

Coincidentally, Greeley Central and Northridge will both be playing Mountain View the next time they take the court. Northridge will head out to face Mountain View at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Greeley Central will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
