There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. The action included a dizzyingly high 148-point combined score from Jeannette and Riverview.
Welcome
Belle Vernon managed to bank 333 more yards than its opponent Plum last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Belle Vernon put the hurt on Plum with a conclusive 48 - 0 victory. Junior Larry Callaway was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he rushed for 263 yards and two touchdowns). The victory also thrust Belle Vernon into the power rankings, where the team now holds the 24th spot.
Can't Touch This
Thomas Jefferson got a 70 - 21 win over Greensburg Salem last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Max Shaw. Shaw ran for 281 yards and also punched in six touchdowns. That performance landed Shaw among the top power-ranked players for the week.
Movin on Up
Blackhawk has been an offensive powerhouse for three straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. It strolled past Beaver Falls with points to spare, taking the game 35 - 15. No one had a larger role in the success than junior Josh Butcher, who brought his A game into the contest. He earned four touchdowns and 100 yards rushing the ball. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by 13, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between North Allegheny (2nd in the power rankings) and Pine-Richland (1st). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Only one team will win this week, so we'll find out which team fails to repeat its success.
