Softball Recap: Los Lunas Now 9-2 over Last 11 Games

Los Lunas won the last time they faced West Mesa and things went their way on Friday too. The Tigers came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 10-5.

Natalie Madrid made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacelyn Baca, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Kelsie DeGraaf, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Los Lunas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Los Lunas is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for West Mesa, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-11.

Looking ahead, Los Lunas will welcome Rio Grande at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ravens have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.45 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for West Mesa, they will head out on the road to face off against Atrisco Heritage Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Jaguars have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
