Basketball Game Preview: Desert View Jaguars vs. Nogales Apaches

Desert View hasn't had much luck against Nogales recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Desert View Jaguars will look to defend their home court against the Nogales Apaches at 7:00 p.m. Desert View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Nogales likes a good challenge.

Last Monday, Desert View was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 75-70 to Douglas. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (58), the Jaguars still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Desert View got top-tier performance from Luis Felix, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Felix a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Beavers, who went 6 of 15 en route to 15 points along with six boards and five assists.

Even though they lost, Desert View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Nogales was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a hard 62-47 fall against Mountain View.

Desert View's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Nogales, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Desert View took a serious blow against Nogales in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 78-46. Thankfully for Desert View, Diego Ortega (who went 10 of 14 on his way to 28 points and five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
