Baseball Recap: Penfield Find Success

Penfield hadn't done well against Hilton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Patriots narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cadets 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Patriots have posted against the Cadets since May 22, 2023.

Penfield got a great performance from George Tajc as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Tajc has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Ryan Ritchlin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Matt Scibienski was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Penfield and bumps their season record up to 6-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Hilton, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Penfield will face off against rival Webster Schroeder at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Hilton is set to challenge their familiar foe Victor at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
