Softball Game Preview: Ramona Rams vs. Rubidoux Falcons

For the second straight game, Ramona will face off against Rubidoux. The Rams will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Falcons at 3:15 p.m. Ramona will be looking to extend their current 12-game winning streak.

Rubidoux's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Ramona hadn't allowed a single run the last six times they've hit the field. The Rams' pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 24-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Rams have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaytlin Stephens made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double.

In other batting news, Olivia Chavez was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Daisy Villegas, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs.

Ramona was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .647. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Ramona pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Rubidoux, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-13.

Rubidoux's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ramona has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Rubidoux, though, as they've been averaging 14.1 hits. Given Ramona's sizable advantage in that area, the Falcons will need to find a way to close that gap.
