Baseball Recap: Mark Keppel's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mark Keppel had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the San Gabriel Matadors. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 6-1 win on Thursday.

Lucas Villaroman made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. Mark Keppel is 2-1 when Villaroman posts two or more runs, but 5-16 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Chang, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Mark Keppel's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-16 when he doesn't). Connor Cheung was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Mark Keppel's record is now 7-17. As for San Gabriel, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.

Coming up, Mark Keppel will face off against Bosco Tech at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Aztecs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. As for San Gabriel, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-1 victory against Verbum Dei Jesuit on the 3rd.
