AAAAA Region 1 Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Ty Jones Delivers Best Performance of Season

On Friday, Lakeside had to settle for second even though Ty Jones put up the best numbers he has all season. Jones rushed for 203 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and also threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now rushed for 101 or more in the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.

Brunswick's probably not too fond of Jones given he always seems to get the better of them. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Jones saw the Pirates), he rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 177 yards and a touchdown.

Grant Moore Sets Career High in Rushing Yards

Brunswick was led to victory by Grant Moore, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday. Moore threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns while completing 88.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process.

Moore and Brunswick will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against South Effingham at 7:30 p.m. on November 1st. The Pirates got just the result they wanted when they last faced the Mustangs, probably because Moore had a solid game then too: he threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt. Can he match (or beat) that performance?

A Season-Best Effort from Jeremy Howard Leads Evans over Statesboro
