Basketball Recap: River Ridge/Scales Mound Takes Down Newman Central Catholic in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only River Ridge/Scales Mound walked away with it. They snuck past the Newman Central Catholic Comets with a 48-43 victory on Thursday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Comets recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

River Ridge/Scales Mound was led to victory by Sarah Winter and Laiken Haas. Winter went 5-for-8 en route to 14 points along with seven boards and three steals, while Haas posted 15 points and six rebounds. Winter continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kenley Patterson, who had 11 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

River Ridge/Scales Mound smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

River Ridge/Scales Mound's victory bumped their record up to 27-6. As for Newman Central Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 24-10.

Looking ahead, River Ridge/Scales Mound will square off against Pecatonica at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. River Ridge/Scales Mound is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season. Newman Central Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
