Basketball Game Preview: Smyer Bobcats vs. Seagraves Eagles

Smyer and Seagraves are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Smyer Bobcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Seagraves Eagles at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Neither Smyer nor Seagraves posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

On Tuesday, Smyer was beaten by Whiteface 66-22. The defeat continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Antelopes: they've now lost six in a row.

Meanwhile, Seagraves played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 60-17 loss at the hands of Ropes. While losing is never fun, Seagraves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1229th, while Ropes is ranked 422nd).

Seagraves has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-20 record this season. As for Smyer, their loss dropped their record down to 21-9.

Everything came up roses for Smyer against Seagraves when the teams last played on January 7th, as the squad secured a 70-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Smyer since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
