Baseball Recap: Hammond Academy of Science & Tech Hawks vs. River Forest Ingots

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 11-1 walloping at the hands of the River Forest Ingots on Friday. Hammond Academy of Science & Tech has not had much luck with River Forest recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isiah Logan, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

On River Forest's side, Sebastian Collazo IV made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Collazo IV was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

In other batting news, River Forest got a massive performance out of Kaleb Short, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Brandon Fergerson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

The victory got River Forest back to even at 1-1.

Hammond Academy of Science & Tech will head out on the road to take on Hebron at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. As for River Forest, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Gary West Side at 9:30 a.m. in Saturday's first game.
