Baseball Recap: Wellington Takes a Loss

Wellington came into this matchup off a tough eight-run loss on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Elyria Catholic Panthers by a score of 9-7 on Wednesday. The Dukes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2022.

Wellington saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Sheppard, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that Sheppard has hit this season. Another was Preston Cochran, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.

Wellington now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Elyria Catholic, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wellington will face off against Firelands at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.58 runs per game on average), something the Dukes will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Elyria Catholic, they will host Oberlin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
