Basketball Recap: St. Martin De Porres' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

St. Martin de Porres needed a changed in momentum after dropping eight straight games and they got it from Ne'Amari Gibson. The stars were shining brightly for the St. Martin de Porres Lions in a 44-25 win over the Detroit Cristo Rey WOLVES on Saturday thanks in part to Gibson, who posted 15 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played.

St. Martin de Porres' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Detroit Cristo Rey, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

St. Martin de Porres will venture away from home to square off against Wickliffe at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Detroit Cristo Rey, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Frankel Jewish Academy of Metro Detroit at 5:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Frankel Jewish Academy of Metro Detroit's defense has only allowed 27.4 points per game this season, so Detroit Cristo Rey's offense will have their work cut out for them.
