Pioneer and Christopher are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will take on the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pioneer will be strutting in after a win while Christopher will be coming in after a loss.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Thursday. Pioneer came out on top against King City by a score of 6-1.

Gina Scripoch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cara Goodrich, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Kassandra Andalon also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Pioneer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.8.

Meanwhile, Christopher lost 14-5 to Gilroy on Saturday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost five in a row.

Melissa Lugo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Pioneer's record now sits at 4-10. As for Christopher, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Pioneer suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Christopher when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
