Basketball Recap: Spackenkill Comes Up Short

If Spackenkill was riding high fresh off their 54-14 takedown of Dover last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spackenkill Spartans took a blow against the Our Lady of Lourdes Warriors on Friday, falling 57-28. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Warriors are ranked 48th).

Spackenkill's loss came despite strong showings from Blythe McQuade and Maryclare Parker-Stark. McQuade posted 15 points, while Parker-Stark put up nine points and seven rebounds. McQuade has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times she's played.

Spackenkill's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Our Lady of Lourdes, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spackenkill will take on Millbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Our Lady of Lourdes, they will square off against Kingston at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Our Lady of Lourdes knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Kingston likes a good challenge.
