Softball Game Preview: Nixon Mustangs vs. Cigarroa Toros

The Nixon Mustangs will challenge the Cigarroa Toros at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Friday just wasn't the day for Nixon's offense. They lost 6-0 to Rio Grande City on Friday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Rattlers recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Meanwhile, Cigarroa came up short against Mission Veterans Memorial on Friday, falling 21-11. That's two games in a row now that the Toros have lost by exactly ten runs.

Rachael Mayo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Julie Benavides, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Cigarroa has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Nixon, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-11.

Nixon took their win against Cigarroa in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 14-2 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Toros turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
