Baseball Recap: Springstead Takes a Loss

Springstead extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-6. They came up short against the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes, falling 8-2. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hurricanes apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2022.

Springstead saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carlos Vega, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Caleb Brandenburg also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they now have a winning record of 4-3. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 14, 2025 (when they won 9-3).

On Bishop McLaughlin Catholic's side, Armando Persia and Owen Anderson dominated on the mound. Persia pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits, while Anderson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Conner McGuire, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Rogerson, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Springstead will head out to square off against Lecanto at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Berkeley Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
