Football Recap: West Craven Wins Going Away Against Southwest Edgecombe + How To Watch

West Craven had won three straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 8-1 to make it four. They blew past the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars 44-19. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 25 points or more this season.

DJ Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 165 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 passes. That's the most rushing touchdowns he has posted since back in August of 2024. West Craven's leading receiver Xavier Cuthbertson was Davis' top target yet again, picking up 74 receiving yards and two scores, while also rushing for 45 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: West Craven was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 300 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 170 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

As for SouthWest Edgecombe, they now have a losing record of 4-5. Their loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Despite the loss, SouthWest Edgecombe still got an impressive performance from Devion Mayo Jr, who rushed for 44 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 138 yards and one TD. The Cougars also got a significant boost from Keanaji Hopkins, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.

That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Davis and Izeiah Oates. Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe will take on rival North Johnston at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
