Monarchs, Braves will face off as top two teams in the rankings for sixth time in seven years.
Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and
St. John Bosco (Bellflower) both won last week to set up high school football's 15th No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown since 2000. The Southern California powerhouses will be meeting for the sixth time since 2018 as the top two teams in the MaxPreps Top 25.
Freshman quarterback
Koa Malau'ulu made his second start for No. 2 Bosco and led the Braves to a 27-17 win over
Servite (Anaheim) at SoFi Stadium. He completed 17 of 25 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns.
This will be the 15th meeting since 2016 between the Trinity League rivals. Mater Dei holds a 9-5 edge in those games.
North Shore is 7-0 and winning by an average margin of 40.7 points per game. Atascocita pulled out a 42-41 win over
Kingwood last week to improve to 7-0.
No. 6
IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) returns to the field for the first time since a 21-16 win over No. 18
Venice (Fla.) on Oct. 4. The Ascenders have a road test against an 8-0
East St. Louis (Ill.) squad. The teams also met in 2021 with
Kaytron Allen leading IMG to a 49-8 win against a talented Flyers team led by
Luther Burden III.

There has been plenty to celebrate as of late for No. 1 Mater Dei, which has won 13 in a row dating back to last season. (Photo: Brian Bautista)
