Baseball Recap: Polk County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Tyner Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Polk County). They blew past the Tyner Academy Rams 18-2 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won eight in a row.

Tanner Silvers made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Polk County let Zanten Branham and Jesse Holden run wild. Branham scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Holden scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Branham a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Cade Brewer, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Polk County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .690. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Polk County's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Tyner Academy, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Polk County Wildcats take on Meigs County Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Tyner Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Howard Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Howard Tech has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.14 runs per game on average), something Tyner Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
