St. Ignace extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 2-10. They lost 12-2 to the Manistique Emeralds. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Emeralds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-7 on Friday.
St. Ignace saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylen Starkey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
As for Manistique, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.
On Manistique's side, Jenna Frain made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Frain has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Malia Blixt looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kamree Herbst, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Kaylin Morrison, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Ignace will square off against Pickford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Manistique, they will challenge Ishpeming at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
