Basketball Recap: Trinidad Miners vs. Del Norte Tigers
Trinidad lost against Del Norte back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Trinidad Miners fell to the Del Norte Tigers 35-29. While losing is never fun, the Miners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 252nd, while the Tigers are ranked 92nd).

Danica Shipley and Mikayla Hinchley certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Shipley posted 13 points and three steals, while Hinchley put up eight points and seven boards. Those eight points gave Hinchley a new career-high. Lilly Gonzales also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Del Norte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emma Parra, who scored 17 points and six steals. The match was Parra's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Baylie Laymon, who had seven points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.
Trinidad has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Del Norte, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Trinidad has already played their next contest, a 41-33 win against Raton on the 16th. As for Del Norte, they will host Sangre de Cristo at 5:00 p.m. on January 21st.
