Baseball Recap: Newman Smith Takes a Loss

Newman Smith was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wakeland Wolverines. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 8-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2021.

Newman Smith now has a losing record of 7-8-2. As for Wakeland, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

While Newman Smith had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
