Platte Canyon is on a three-game streak of home losses, Arvada a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Thursday. The two teams will meet in a canine-themed contest at 5:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Platte Canyon is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against St. Mary's Academy back in December of 2024 (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Platte Canyon took a blow against St. Mary's Academy, falling 41-13. The game marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Abigail Tomasko was Platte Canyon's leading scorer, having posted five points. Emma Flores held things down on the boards with 12 rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Meanwhile, Arvada was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 32-27 to Arrupe Jesuit.
Platte Canyon will have to contain Carmen Medina as she made an impact in Arvada's last game. She posted six points along with 11 rebounds and seven steals. Medina has been hot recently, having posted five or more steals the last three times she's played.
Even though they lost, Arvada smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive contests.
Arvada's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Platte Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Platte Canyon has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Arvada struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Platte Canyon was able to grind out a solid victory over Arvada when the teams last played back in January of 2024, winning 44-33. Will Platte Canyon repeat their success, or does Arvada have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
