Baseball Game Preview: Eagle Valley Devils vs. Denver East Angels

The Eagle Valley Devils will take on the Denver East Angels at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eagle Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Eagle Valley turned things around against Weld Central two weeks ago. They blew past the Rebels 9-1.

James Bivins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Eagle Valley is 2-1 when Bivins allows one or fewer earned runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Bivins was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Eagle Valley got a big performance out of Anthony Ehlert, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave Ehlert a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander DeHerrera, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Eagle Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .522. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weld Central only posted an OBP of .368.

Meanwhile, Denver East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Vista PEAK Prep, falling 8-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Angels were not able to get on the board.

Eagle Valley's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Denver East, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
