Preview: Marana Tigers vs. Casa Grande Cougars
The Marana Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Casa Grande Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Marana is ranked 59th, while Casa Grande is ranked 47th).
After only six points in their last matchup, Marana made sure to put some points up on the board against Desert View on Friday. Marana claimed a resounding 49-8 win over Desert View at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Marana had established a 35 point advantage.
Marana can attribute much of their success to Darian Dewitt, who gained 105 total yards and two touchdowns, and Colten "Coco" Meyer, who threw for 274 yards and four touchdowns while completing 84.6% of his passes. Dezmen Roebuck made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Casa Grande entered their tilt with Sunnyside with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Casa Grande had just enough and edged Sunnyside out 14-12.
Marana's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-5. As for Casa Grande, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Marana has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 424.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Casa Grande struggles in that department as they've been averaging 396.6 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Marana was dealt a bruising 49-7 loss at the hands of Casa Grande when the teams last played back in October of 2014. Thankfully for Marana, Brock Hall (who threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in a rushing score) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
