Softball Game Preview: Martin County Gators vs. South Lenoir Blue Devils

The Martin County Gators will take on the South Lenoir Blue Devils on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Martin County 3.4, South Lenoir 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Martin County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They skirted past Eastern Wayne 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gators have posted since May 15, 2024.

Erica Sturgill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ty'Hiera Wooten, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, South Lenoir had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Stallions. Considering the Blue Devils have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

South Lenoir's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Martin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That somehow still isn't as good as their 21-4 record this season.
