Softball Game Preview: Smithtown West vs. Comsewogue Warriors

Smithtown West is a perfect 3-0 against Comsewogue since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Smithtown West will take on Comsewogue at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Smithtown West had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Bellport on Friday. Smithtown West's pitchers stepped up to hand Bellport a 15-0 shutout. Smithtown West not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 27, 2024 (when they won 17-0).

Erin McDaid made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Gabrielle Krayewski was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jiselle Singh, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Smithtown West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Comsewogue, who bounced back after a loss on the road on April 2nd. They blew past Bellport 12-0 on Wednesday.

The victory got Smithtown West back to even at 5-5. As for Comsewogue, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Smithtown West was able to grind out a solid victory over Comsewogue in their previous meeting on April 2nd, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Smithtown West since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
