Football Recap: Trinity Catholic Celtics vs. Newberry Panthers

After flying high against P.K. Yonge last Friday, Trinity Catholic came back down to earth. The Trinity Catholic Celtics lost 37-14 to the Newberry Panthers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Celtics can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Panthers are ranked 65th).

Austin Holder and Carter Schofield certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Holder picked up 125 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Schofield threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Newberry's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Collin Dunmore, who threw for 125 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. What's more, Dunmore also racked up 28 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in September. Another player making a difference was Hayden Moore, who picked up 131 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Trinity Catholic's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Newberry, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Trinity Catholic and Providence School will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:30 p.m. on November 15th. As for Newberry, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Palatka at 7:30 p.m. on November 15th. Palatka knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Newberry likes a good challenge.
