Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Madison

Madison entered their tilt with Liberty Tech Magnet on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Crusaders. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 20-2 on Tuesday.

Garrett Pickens made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Pickens was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ryker Stegall was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Nicolas Udovich was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.

Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Madison's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Liberty Tech Magnet, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Madison and Liberty Tech Magnet could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Mustangs will take on Jackson South Side at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (240 vs. 80). Meanwhile, Liberty Tech Magnet (ranked 350th) will meet Riverside (ranked 143rd) on Monday.
