Football Recap: Garrett Railroaders vs. DeKalb Barons
Garrett managed to slip by DeKalb the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Railroaders came up short against the Barons on Friday, falling 28-7. The Railroaders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Barons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
Wyatt Hefty threw for 132 yards on eight of 16 attempts. Jake Gonya was his top target, picking up 55 receiving yards. On the ground, Aiden Reed rushed for 59 yards.
DeKalb's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xavier Bell, who picked up 97 receiving yards and one TD. Bell also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making two total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Noah Spears did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 116 receiving yards.
Garrett's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for DeKalb, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Coming up, Garrett will host Churubusco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for DeKalb, they are taking a road trip to square off against New Haven at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Barons' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
