Baseball Recap: Chaparral Has No Trouble Against Saguaro

After only one run in their last game, Chaparral made sure to put some runs up on the board against Saguaro on Monday. The Firebirds put the hurt on the Sabercats with a sharp 10-4 win. With that victory, the Firebirds brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Chaparral got a great performance from Max Mangini as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over 4.1 innings pitched. Mangini has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gavin Mesa was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Chaparral's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Solar, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Chaparral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Chaparral has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Saguaro, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10-1.

Looking ahead, Chaparral will be playing at home against Campo Verde at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Saguaro, they will head out on the road to square off against Marcos de Niza at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
