Baseball Game Preview: New Brockton Gamecocks vs. Geneva Panthers

The New Brockton Gamecocks will take on the Geneva Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Geneva will be up against a hot New Brockton team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. New Brockton was the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over Florala on Thursday. Considering the Gamecocks have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Hayden Pope and Judd Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Pope scored two runs and stole Four bases. while going 1-for-3, while Thomas scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Gavin Hand, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Geneva had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Geneva County 11-4 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the game before.

Jacob Rose spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Geneva is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-7 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Haze Ammons, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Brady Cox was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-5.

New Brockton pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Geneva, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.

New Brockton couldn't quite finish off Geneva in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 and fell 8-6. Can New Brockton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
