Softball Game Preview: Mayfield Panthers vs. Canajoharie Cougars

Mayfield is 9-1 against Canajoharie since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Mayfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Mayfield made easy work of Middleburgh and carried off a 20-4 win. Considering the Panthers have won three games by more than 11 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaylee Klymkow made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Klymkow was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Kloe Fetrow was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maya Rohling, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Mayfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Canajoharie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 19-1 to Duanesburg.

Canajoharie's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Mayfield, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Mayfield skirted past Canajoharie 8-7 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
