Baseball Game Preview: Vancleave Bulldogs vs. St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws

The Vancleave Bulldogs will challenge the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Vancleave will be strutting in after a win while St. Stanislaus will be coming in after a loss.

Vancleave is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Friday. They came out on top against Harrison Central by a score of 8-4.

Tony Craven was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in hits (zero). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aidan Tapp, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, St. Stanislaus didn't have quite enough to beat Picayune on Saturday and fell 6-4. The loss was the Rock-a-Chaws' first of the season.

Like Vancleave, St. Stanislaus also got a great game from a two-way player: Tate Murphy. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Murphy was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Murphy wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wiley Mossy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Everything went Vancleave's way against St. Stanislaus in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Vancleave made off with a 13-3 victory. Will Vancleave repeat their success, or does St. Stanislaus have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
