Wauseon had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Maumee Panthers on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Indians also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Wauseon took Maumee into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-25, 15-8.

Wauseon was led to victory by Anaya Gonzales and Halle Fogarty. Gonzales had 15 digs and four aces, while Fogarty had ten digs and two assists.

They weren't the only good server: Wauseon was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 14 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Maumee's loss came despite strong showings from Mia Mitchell and Taryn Pyle. Mitchell had ten digs and four aces, while Pyle had 14 digs.
